HOP's Mission, just as it has been from day one; is to help outdoor-citizens ... to distance themselves, from the modern-day dependency paradigm, and to turn their lives around.
For example, the ones who ask daily, "where is my food, water, clothing, bathroom, sleeping bags, bed for a night, jobs, clothing, bus pass, healthcare, haircut, housing, poncho..."? Trust me; this is neither the answer nor the way out of 'homeless-poverty' for the ones who are truly homeless, impoverished... and desire change'!
Too
many members of the outdoor-demographic, have fallen down, headlong,
into the 'dependency trap'; as opposed to working creatively to get
up, participate in problem-solving, along with
receiving genuine help. For too many of our outdoor-citizens,
homelessness, has become a preferred lifestyle.
Change, oftentimes, requires that the wrong people, the one's who are not going anywhere, be kept away (to the extent that it can be done), in order for a progressive outdoor-citizen, to modify or reform their own thinking, adapt a new worldview and to achieve their objectives.
The
American GDP, is currently at 16-Trillion dollars. If capital is what
is required, Outdoor-Citizens... simply need to understand the new
way, the 2014 way of acquiring it, as opposed to waiting on
3rd Parties
to hire or do everything for you. It is a new day!
The
other problem with the dependency trap, is this: It is more
beneficial to the individuals, institutions, organizations that
support it (all too often) that feign or believe that they are
helping, when they are only contributing to the delinquency, of some
of our outdoor-citizen minors.
Disbursing or dispensing a few crumbs from the table, only helps the ones that are a part of the problem, to reify a problem that needs to be changed. The Apostle Peter, wanted to help lift people up, remember? His motive, in the final analysis, was to teach people to walk by themselves... as opposed to lying around and begging.
(1) This
message also goes out to 'conservative outdoor-citizens', as well.
Some of you aren't doing enough to help, other than talking in a
manner, similar to your leadership in Washington DC; some of you are
all talk and no action.
Nothing
will ever change for outdoor-citizens, en masse; until
outdoor-citizens are fully involved, desire to and take charge of
personal recovery, and each ones personal destiny. When able
outdoor-citizens get busy, most of them; the institutions can do what
they were intended to do and help the ones, who honestly, cannot help
themselves. Yes, there are some of those, 'we know that'!

In
Santa Clara Valley alone; millions of dollars have been spent,
salaries paid... and the poor or cunning outdoor-citizens, remain in
the same place (outside and being ordered around by the police or
someone else). In Santa Clara County, we have outdoor-citizens
who have lived outside for decades, and some nearly a half-century or
more. And that is not a problem, if a person is self-reliant.
And
trust me outdoor-citizens, I know firsthand, that some members of the
police department(s), are empathetic and really do care; however,
they are sandwiched in between. They are often deployed as the
first, second and third line of defense to manage the
outdoor-citizen's problem, which many times is not a police problem
at all.
Recently, in a community meeting that I attended at San Jose City Hall, I was convinced that the new Chief of Police or Lieutenant (t'was a few months ago), was trying to do the right thing, where members of the outdoor-citizen demographic, were concerned.
On
the other hand, the community-audience and merchants too, were
clearly very near to nadir, and ready to take off a few heads. One
knucklehead in a suit, was even using 'bad words', having zero
interest in the outdoor-citizens problem.
Finally,
I and our sponsors, invite and encourage all outdoor-citizens, that
need help, to start here and begin your recovery. You are welcome to
come to HOP, and work to bring your lives back on line.
Closing
Thought: Each and every opportunity that is in place, was
thought of and implemented by someone who pursued an idea, vision or
thought! You can do the same thing, don't stop.
Solomon
We encourage and teach outdoor-citizens, the ones that are capable, ready for change, will listen, follow rules, be respectful and work towards their objectives; to take charge of their personal destinies. How? By employing a self-help paradigm and methodology, with support; as opposed to the models that are currently in place.
